SHRM Certification

You no doubt have heard that the credentials in HR are changing! Instead of one credential, developed and endorsed by SHRM and administered and tested by HRCI, both SHRM and HRCI are now offering a credential for HR Professionals. But, since SHRM is the leading HR authority throughout the nation, we believe that the SHRM certification will continue to be the industry standard. The new credentials: SHRM-CP (SHRM-Certified Professional) and SHRM-SCP (SHRM-Senior Certified Professional) are among the first HR certifications to focus on teaching and testing the practical, real-world information that HR professionals need to find success in their careers today!

SHRM is committed to ensuring that the certification is recognized as best in class and distinguishes you in the marketplace. This certification is the culmination of over three years of research, and based on the SHRM Competency Model, which was validated by more than 35,000 HR professionals around the world. These HR professionals identified the skills needed to grow and succeed in HR careers. Studies were conducted with four major corporations and four major research universities, including Walmart, Boeing, Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University, Lusiada University (Lisbon, Portugal), and University of North Carolina-Charlotte. The SHRM Certification preparation program will teach to the new global Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK) and prepare participan
ts for the comprehensive exam.

What is Certification?

There are two levels of certification covered by this prep course: the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP.

Eligibility requirements for the exam are available on the SHRM website: SHRM.org/certification/about/eligibilitycriteria

The SHRM Certification shows that the HR Professional has demonstrated mastery of the HR body of knowledge and has accepted the challenge to stay informed of past, present and future developments within the HR field. To be effective in our work, HR professionals must know how to deal effectively with all aspects of the field, including strategic planning, workforce planning, workplace safety, compensation and benefits, HR development, employee/labor relations, and emerging HR issues. To be competitive in this labor market, HR professionals must show that they are both well-educated and well-credentialed.

For more information on how to register for the exam – or what experience meets the requirements, please see the SHRM website: SHRM.org/certification.
