Immigration Updates and Challenges in 2017

With the continual increase of mobile (or global) employees – from traditional expatriates, business travelers to the US, and employees with nontraditional work arrangements – finding timely, legal and cost effective immigration strategies has never been more important… or more challenging.

Join us, Thursday, June 8th at General Mills as our panelists share their experiences in navigating the current immigration landscape, including:

Maya Salah. Lindquist & Vennum

Maya Salah focuses her practice on employment and immigration law and serves as Lindquist & Vennum’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion. Maya is a former prosecutor with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office and a former investigator for both the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the City of St. Paul Department of Human Rights. She leverages this experience and insight into the ways in which government investigations and enforcement actions work when handling complex employment and immigration compliance matters.

As someone who has lived on three continents, speaks four languages and works to foster an inclusive work environment at the firm, Maya brings a truly global perspective to her representation of employers of all sizes. She routinely advises clients on issues arising under Title VII, FLSA, FMLA and ADA and defends companies subject to inspections by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In addition, Maya assists employers with work based visa petitions, mediations, training programs and internal audits on Form I-9 compliance.

Lisa Pedrys, Medtronic

Lisa has 20+ years of experience in employment based immigration allowing her the ability to offer strategic advice on immigration-related issues arising in the context of short and long-term employment strategies, corporate obligations in mergers and acquisitions, site visits and other service requests for evidence. She leads a team of internal immigration professionals providing business leaders, management, and human resource professionals with short and long-term immigration strategies to meet their hiring needs.

Lisa focuses on all facets of business immigration handling the full spectrum of temporary work visa options (e.g. B, E3, F-1 (CPT & OPT/EAD) H-1B, H4/EAD H3, J, L-1A and B, TN, O-1, J-1, etc.) and permanent visa options. She also develops streamlined internal immigration processes and develops proactive strategies for overcoming potential issues and risks before they arise.
