Session 2: Accommodations and Animal Accommodation Requests Under ADA

Attorneys are hounded with questions of employer obligations, legitimacy and individuals’ rights on a daily basis. During this session, we will discuss obligations under employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We will also address some facts and myths regarding accommodations, including service animals.

Ben Sandahl

Prior to joining Littler, Ben worked at another national law firm. He won the then-largest judgment in the history of Illinois and the largest breach of fiduciary duty judgment in the United States for a real estate company by writing a partial summary judgment motion that the court largely granted. Sexual harassment claims in the workplace are on the rise. Business leaders are asking questions related to their company’s process to their Human Resources professionals. Employers must take all reasonable steps to prevent harassment from occurring. Effectively investigating harassment claims and promptly intervening is critical for organizations. During this session, we will discuss the recommended steps organizations should to take to investigation sexual harassment claims in the workplace.

Lerner focuses her practice on defending and advising employers and offers an in-depth knowledge of employment laws, human resources administration, and business practicalities. She has successfully defended a wide variety of employment law claims in state and federal courts and agency proceedings. 


Office managing shareholder of Littler's Minneapolis office, Shirley is also  a frequent lecturer at continuing education and management events.

Claire Deason

Claire DeasonAssociate at Littler Mendelson, P.C
Claire B. Deason’s practice covers all areas of employment and labor litigation, with a specific emphasis on wage and hour litigation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). She develops creative, cutting-edge strategies for early resolution and dismissal of collective actions and has efficiently resolved collective actions for clients in the hospitality, service, and oil and gas industries. Claire has extensive experience with all stages of wage and hour litigation.

Claire also has experience supervising and coordinating claims administration processes for collective actions.  Aside from wage and hour litigation, Claire advises clients on all aspects of current wage and hour law and works closely with clients to revise payroll practices and calculation methods, review position classifications, and coordinate messaging and training to communicate changes to the workforce.
