Calling all students and young professionals! The Student and Young Professionals Panel Event is back.  Are you interested to learn more about an HR career path? Deciding which functional career path might be best for you? Or looking to network with fellow young professionals? Join us at our special panel event for discussion, questions for our panel and networking.  

 

Space is limited and all attendees are encouraged to register early.

Panelists

Maryam Becker, Lead Campus Recruiter at Target Corporation 
Maryam is Lead Campus Recruiter at the Target Corporation. She recruits for graduate programs for the Headquarters location. In addition to Maryam’s current role, she has held numerous roles within Target’s Talent HRAcquisition area since joining the company in 2010. She is originally from Duluth, Minnesota.  Her and her husband, and 95+ Bernese Mountain Dog currently reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She currently holds a B.S. Human Resource Development degree with a minor in Leadership from The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota; Masters in Human Resources Industrial Relations degree from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management. Maryam has held numerous leadership positions within Alpha Chi Omega’s Alumni association, as well as numerous volunteer, mentorship and leadership roles within undergraduate leadership development programs at the University of Minnesota. Outside of  work, part-time school, and extracurriculars, Maryam enjoys reading, cooking, brunch with friends, running, yoga, Orange Theory Fitness and barre classes.



Becky Locke, Director of Talent Development at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

Becky Locke’s career path has spanned several HR disciplines, including HR generalist, recruiting, leadership development and talent development roles at many well-known companies, including Thomson Reuters, Deluxe, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. An optimistic, strategic and innovative business and HR professional, she is an incredible mentor and leader for young professionals and students.



 




Kelsey Johnson, Sr. Compensation & Benefits Analyst at Liberty Diversified International
Kelsey attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and pursued 2 Majors (Human Resource Development, Business & Marketing Education) and 1 Minor (Human Resources & Industrial Relations) to address the realization that Human Resources is a large field by gaining as much knowledge and exposure as possible. During his time at the University of Minnesota he had 3 internships in various disciplines of HR, again to address the realization that HR is a large field. His first job out of college was Human Resources Assistant at Liberty Diversified International, again to further his pursuit of getting a wide variety of HR experience before honing in on one discipline. Through hard work, saying “yes”, and a supportive employer, Kelsey  have been able to determine that he enjoys the analytical side of Human Resources, which has led him to where he is today in the Total Rewards field as well as HR Technology and Operations. Kelsey is currently in his 3
rd position at LDI and now has a team that he manages which is some of his most enjoyable work.


Melissa Barrett, Staff HRIS Analyst at Northrop Grumman

Melissa Barrett has worked as an HR practitioner in compensation, talent management, and HR Systems for 18 years in the Aerospace and Defense industry.  Her specialties are systems implementations, process improvement, project management, and M&A integrations. She has a BA in psychology and a MA in Human Resources and Industrial Relations, both from the University of Minnesota.  Melissa lives in St Louis Park with her husband Sean and two sons ages 4 and 7. In her free time, she loves to travel, hike, and dance and is a proud sorority woman as a member of Delta Gamma.



Carrie Patton, Human Resources Manager at Cushman & Wakefield - Moderator 
Carrie Patton is a Human Resources Manager for Cushman & Wakefield, supporting the Minneapolis & Chicago markets as well as the East Region Project & Development Services business.  She is responsible for delivering strategic and tactical human resources guidance to business leaders and employees. With a diverse background in human resources, Carrie originally joined the Cushman & Wakefield predecessor, United Properties, human resources team in 2001 and has over 20 years of experience in the profession. Carrie is an active member of the Twin Cities Society of Human Resources Management (Twin Cities SHRM) and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). Carrie currently sits on the Board of Directors of Twin Cities SHRM as the Immediate Past President of the organization.   Carrie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Bemidji State University and is a Society of Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute. She is also earned a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University School of Business.
