Keynote Speakers

Roxane Battle - Pockets of Joy: Yes! Even in a Pandemic

The only thing constant in life is change, yet human beings are instinctively wired to resist change. Often, we suffer our way through loss, or transition, rather than embrace change as an opportunity for personal growth and development. What if we could learn to manage the transitions in our lives in a way that also allows us to find joy? In this inspirational talk, former KARE 11-TV personality and award-winning author Roxane Battle blends elements of positive psychology and mindfulness with personal stories of her journey in transitioning out of a high-profile television career into a new and fulfilling life. It’s a journey that resulted in real-life lessons and authentic happiness. Through candor, humor and expert storytelling Ms. Battle will equip attendees with tools to help them see life’s challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities to experience authentic joy.

Roxane Battle is a veteran television journalist, public speaker, author and mom. Her award-winning memoir, Pockets of Joy: Deciding to Be Happy, Choosing to Be Free (Whitaker House 2017), became an Amazon best-seller in multiple categories.Best known for her television news career as an anchor and reporter at the Minneapolis NBC affiliate KARE-TV, Roxane is now a nationally sought-after speaker, frequently delivering keynotes on the topics of finding joy, resilience, navigating change, and work-life merge. Kat Perkins - Closing Keynote -Fearless

Kat Perkins’ FEARLESS presentation is an engaging, powerful message about being brave, staying positive, and taking chances in life.

Kat Perkins grew up in Scranton, North Dakota surrounded by a family of musicians and quickly knew at a young age that performing is what she wanted to make her life career. After seeking as many opportunities as she could, including spending several summers as a main act on the Medora Musical stage, Kat followed her undeniable drive and passion for performing and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pursue music on a more professional scale. She quickly gained the attention of the local Twin Cities music scene by taking stages in the several projects and bands she formed over the years. The most successful being her rock band, Scarlet Haze, which went to open for Bon Jovi, amongst working with some of the music industry's most well-known acts.

After a hiatus from performing due to vocal surgery, Kat made a musical comeback in 2014 by auditioning and appearing on season 6 of NBC's The Voice. Kat turned 3 chairs during her blind audition, charted in the top 5 on iTunes several times with her stand-out performances on the show, and sailed to the finals with help from her coach, Adam Levine. Being on The Voice brought new platforms of success and opportunities Kat's way.

She's since gone on an average of two military tours per year to perform for the troops overseas, sold out venues across America with a variety of themed performances and tours, and began going into schools to speak to students about following their dreams, living a Fearless life, and making a positive impact on the world.

The praise Kat received from these presentations even led her to begin a nonprofit foundation, The Rising Star Foundation, providing scholarships and opportunity for aspiring musicians while also giving back to the local community.

Neena Kurian

Neena Kurian is the newest Recruiter at Dungarvin in Mendota Heights, MN. She focuses on finding the best talent for the services and support that Dungarvin offers, which is dedicated to individuals with various developmental and intellectual disabilities. Dungarvin’s mission is close to her heart as she grew up with an older brother who suffered from a traumatic brain injury and most recently her father and has advocated for both.

Neena graduated high school a year early, and as a 2nd generation American citizen, this was a big deal to the family, as nobody else had finished high school. She started taking college courses immediately. She was incredibly motivated to make a life for herself. Life started early for her though, and on top of being a full-time college student and working full-time, she became a mother as well.

Neena was in a very bad car accident with a semi-truck that left her in excruciating daily pain. After undergoing spine surgery, she realized life was too short and needed to make a change for her future, and for her daughter. She decided to focus on school full-time in hopes of a brighter future and financial freedom. She gave notice at her job and took a part-time position in the restaurant industry.

Life has certainly changed for her in all the best ways after putting herself and her education first and foremost. One year after giving notice, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management in August 2019 – again, the first in her family to graduate with a four-year degree and no debt. Shortly after, Neena accepted a position with her dream company, Dungarvin, as a Recruiter and started doing what she loves the most – training and helping others succeed. This summer, she closed on her first home with her daughter. Taking the risk to invest fully in school has no doubt paid off.
