Purpose

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors (BOD).   Act as a professional adviser to the BOD, Twin Cities SHRM Volunteers and members in all aspects of the organization’s activities. 

 

Essential Accountabilities 

  • Financial Management—Work with BOD to prepare a comprehensive budget while ensuring adequate funding for the operations of the organization.  Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the BOD. Work with designated CPA firm to provide the BOD with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues, investments and expenditure of the organization.  Ensure the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation and finances.
  • Operations – Ensure the operation of the organization meets the expectations of the members and the BOD.  Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization. Provide support to the BOD by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials.   Identify, and evaluate the risks of the organizations and ensure the BOD and TCHR carries appropriate and adequate insurance coverage. 
  • Member, Volunteer and Sponsor Engagement – Establish good working relationships with members, volunteers and sponsors.  Respond timely to inquiries and consistently represent the organization in a professional manner consistent with the mission.  Monitor membership numbers regularly and update the BOD regularly.  Recommend opportunities and implement programs for membership growth and retention.
  • Program and Conference Planning and Management - oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organizations member programing and annual conference.  Ensure that the programs and services offered contribute to the organizations’ mission and reflect the priorities of the BOD.   Monitor the delivery of the programs and services to maintain or improve quality.
  • SHRM Relations – Maintain relationships with key stakeholders at SHRM National and the MN SHRM State Council.  Ensure required reporting to SHRM is completed within deadline.  Network with other SHRM Chapters and Chapter Management professionals to bring ideas to the BOD on best practices and benchmarking.

Qualifications 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management or related field

Work Experience:

  • 5 + years of human resources operations or previous management experience in a voluntary sector organization
  • Working knowledge of non-profit organizations in

Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:

  • Highly proficient in all Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat and InDesign
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Bill.com – transactional searches, matching, and reconciliation
  • Proficient in an online meeting/webinar system

Demonstrated Professional Competencies to include:

  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in working with a Board of Directors
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to use sound judgment and common sense in decision-making situations.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while remaining flexible
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees in order to meet individual and team member stakeholder needs
